Pirate's Booty Delivery & May 2017 Production Update
almost 9 years ago – Tue, May 23, 2017 at 11:03:08 PM

Hey folks!

May is here and we’re excited to share another production update… including the arrival of the long-awaited Pirate’s Booty! Yarrrr!

Pirate’s Booty Ready to Ship

Despite a few production and shipping delays, the Pirate’s Booty is finally here! This full box set includes bone dice, Hero and Villain cards, Sorte decks, and hero points! We also have GM Screens ready too! Whew!

The arrival of the Pirate’s Booty box means that we’ll also have those components for folks who ordered one or more accessories without getting the full box. If you’ve been waiting to get your Sorte Deck, dice, tokens, GM screen, or deck of Heroes/Villains, this is your moment!

Pirate Booty Box Components

As with the previous rewards, we’ll be running delivery for the Pirate’s Booty and all the components through our webstore via coupon codes delivered through Backerkit. We’ve already pushed those coupons out via email, but if you didn’t get an email, you can grab your coupon directly from the Backerkit Digital Rewards page:

Backerkit Link: https://7th-sea-second-edition.backerkit.com/backer/digital_rewards

Here’s how to claim your rewards from our website:

  • Get your coupon from Backerkit’s Digital Rewards page
  • Go to the product page on our website (links below/in Backerkit)
  • Add the coupon(s) to your order at checkout
  • Our shipper will send you the accessory by the end of the month

Note that your coupon entitles you to free shipping for your rewards, which applies to any other books or accessories you add to your order as well (like an additional Core Rulebook, Heroes & Villains, a set of dice, or any other JWP product!) This coupon is also good for one year, so you can wait to use it if you’re about to change your address or want more than one thing delivered at a time.

If you didn’t purchase any of the Pirate’s Booty rewards during the Kickstarter and you’d like to pick something up, you can also buy any of these rewards from our webstore while they’re still available:

Note that the GM Screen is not included inside the Pirate’s Booty box; anyone who is getting a Pirate’s Booty box will also get a separate coupon for a GM Screen. (You can use both coupons simultaneously to get your Booty box and GM screen shipped together.)

Also please note that the maps aren't ready yet. We're still finalizing The Crescent Empire, Aztlan, and Ifri, so look for those maps a bit later this year!

We know you’ve waited awhile for these rewards, and we’d like to ask for your continued patience while we work on shipping them out to you. With more than 2,500 GM Screens, 2,000 booty boxes, 1,600 individual Sorte decks, hero points, etc., this will be our biggest shipping project since the Core Rulebook. It’s a lot of stuff!

If you don’t get a coupon or still don’t have your pieces in a few weeks (June 15 domestic / June 30 international), please let us know and we’ll figure out what went wrong! Kickstarter messages are preferred, but you can also send us an email at [email protected].

The Pirate’s Booty represents a big milestone for us. While we still have a number of books to deliver, we’re more than halfway done with all the rewards we’re going to deliver!

Production Update: May 2017

We’ve got a bunch of good news this month in addition to the Pirate’s Booty shipping. Both Nations of Théah books are on their way out to backers shortly, the Storium Deck is almost done and we’ve got a new preview of John’s next novel!

Book Updates:

  • Nations of Théah, Vol 1: COMPLETE, shipping to backers June 6th, 2017
  • Nations of Théah, Vol 2: At Printer, shipping to backers July 10th, 2017
  • The Crescent Empire: Copy Editing to Layout, delivery set to June 2017
  • The New World: Adjusted delivery to July 2017

Accessory Updates:

  • Pirate’s Booty: COMPLETE, shipping to backers May 2017
  • GM Screen: COMPLETE, shipping to backers May 2017
  • Storium World: Copy Editing to Layout

Novels Updates:

  • Daughter of Fate: At Printer, resolving cover issues to ship print copies in June
  • Born Under a Black Flag: Layout to Proofing, PDF to backers for review (below)

Nations of Théah: Volume 1 is wrapping up at the printer and headed our way soon. We’ll be shipping it out around the 6th of June, so stay tuned for more print coupons coming your way in a few weeks. We just turned around the proofs for Nations of Théah: Volume 2 as well, so we’ll have that out to backers at the beginning of July! Yay! You’ll see both books in retail stores shortly after they go out to all of you.

The Crescent Empire has made some great progress this last month, so we’re moving it ahead of New World a bit in the schedule. We expect to have the PDF of The Crescent out next month for you all to review. We’re really excited about the next few sourcebooks, all of which explore the non-Théan parts of Terra.

Stay tuned for an update on our Storium Deck in the next month. We’ve handed the files off to Storium, including some amazing art from the books, and we’re expecting to get that stretch goal marked off our list soon.

Finally, we’re having a bit of trouble finalizing the colors on the cover to Daughter of Fate. We still expect that book to ship in June, but we want to make sure it looks great. We’re currently working with the artist to revise the cover. As for Born Under the Black Flag...

Born Under the Black Flag Preview

Have you already finished reading Daughter of Fate? If not, time to get reading! We’ve already got another 7th Sea novel headed your way. The early release of Born Under the Black Flag is ready for review and proofing.

Born Under the Flag Mockup
Born Under the Flag Mockup

Here’s a sneak peek:

Vicaro paused. He considered St. Claire carefully. “Are you a man of God, St. Claire?”

St. Claire shook his head. “I’m not trying to get into Heaven. I’m just trying to make up for the evil I’ve done.”

He was the Bane of the Seven Seas. A ruthless villain who killed and plundered every port in Théah and beyond. But something happened to him out there on the waves. Now, he hunts down those who prey on the weak. What happened to transform one of Théah's most notorious villains into one of its most famous heroes?

Born Under the Black Flag is the story of Thomas St. Claire. It begins with his early days as a blood-thirsty pirate and tells the story of his transformation and possible redemption.

Please give us your feedback about Born Under the Black Flag by Sunday, June 4th, 2017 at 10pm Eastern. As before… please don’t email or post in the comments with your feedback. With over 11,000 backers, that would overwhelm our ability to deal with emails and comments. Instead give us feedback via this link by June 4th at 10:00pm Eastern:

We look forward to your thoughts and notes! Thanks as always for helping us make each one of these novels as awesome as they can be.

War of the Cross Kickstarter - June 6, 2017

Last but not least, we’re thrilled to announce the official Kickstarter launch date for the upcoming 7th Sea board game, War of the Cross. The board game Kickstarter represents another huge milestone for John Wick Presents and 7th Sea. It’s because of your support for 7th Sea: Second Edition that we’re able to bring the world of Théah to new audiences...starting with our first JWP board game.

We’ll have more details in coming weeks about game play, components and our plans for the game. In the meantime, here are a few preview images courtesy of our Sr. Art Director, Marissa Kelly, including the first peek at some concept art and minis:

Production Update: April 2017
almost 9 years ago – Mon, May 01, 2017 at 12:17:28 AM

Hey folks!

While it’s coming in just under the wire, we’re excited about our April 2017 Production Update! Thanks for your patience this month; we’ve been busy with our noses to the grindstone and our hands wet with ink!

Nations of Théah: Volume 1 (Final Release)

Now that we’ve finally finished all the print proofing for Nations of Théah: Volume 1, we’re ready to release the final PDF on DTRPG:

Nations of Théah: Volume 1
Nations of Théah: Volume 1

Liberty! Equality! Freedom!

Change is coming to Theah’s western nations. Tensions rise as disenfranchised, war-weary people grow restless under the unrelenting rule of the nobility. Now, the people look towards revolution as the only respite.

This book contains material for 7th Sea: Second Edition including new Backgrounds, Advantages, Dueling styles and new monsters. It also includes expanded setting information for Theah’s four western nations.

  • Avalon, including a look at Queen Elaine’s Court, the Sidhe, various locations in the Glamour Isles and an expansion on Glamour Sorcery
  • Castille, including an inside view into the Church and Inquisition, the ducados of Castille and Alquimia, an all new Sorcery for Castille
  • Montaigne, including a look into the royal family and l’Empereur’s court, the Montaigne countryside and an expansion on Porte Sorcery
  • Vestenmennavenjar, including a look into the Vendel League, the jarls of Vesten, the ongoings of the various cities in Vesten and Galdr, an all new Sorcery for Vesten

Adventure, political intrigue and upheaval lurks around every corner. Are you ready to take up the cause?

As with other final digital files, this sourcebook will be pushed out to backers via Backerkit by Monday. If you didn’t get an email from Backerkit, you can grab the files directly from the Backerkit Digital Downloads page:

https://7th-sea-second-edition.backerkit.com/backer/digital_rewards

Look for the full Nations of Théah: Volume 1 PDF to go on sale this next week! We’ll have print copies out to backers and up for sale on our webstore by the end of May.

Nations of Théah: Volume 2 (Backer Preview)

Just as Nations of Théah: Volume 1 is hitting DTRPG, we’re ready to release our first preview for Nations of Théah: Volume 2! While we're still waiting on a good portion of the art, the text and systems are ready for backers to preview.

Nations of Théah: Volume 2
Nations of Théah: Volume 2

Like NoT: Volume 1, NoT: Volume 2 covers four Théan Nations: Eisen, Ussura, The Sarmatian Commonwealth, and Vodacce. Probe the secrets of these eastern lands, where magic grows thick and dangerous and backstabbing intrigue lurks around every corner.

This sourcebook preview has also been pushed out to backers via Backerkit. If you didn’t get an email from Backerkit, you can grab the file directly from the Backerkit Digital Downloads page:

https://7th-sea-second-edition.backerkit.com/backer/digital_rewards

If for some reason your Backerkit doesn’t have the file, please message us via Kickstarter and we’ll get it sorted out for you. We can’t wait to get your feedback on our newest book!

As before… please don’t email or post in the comments with your feedback. With over 11,000 backers, that would overwhelm our ability to deal with emails and comments. Instead give us feedback via this link by May 5th at 10:00pm Eastern:

https://goo.gl/forms/iA9z5VO4TjU9IXpE3

We’ll be sending this book to the printer in early May, so look for final PDFs then and actual books by June!

Our proofing for Nations of Théah: Volume 1 took a bit longer than usual, so we’re now waiting on the books to get back from the printer. We expect to see them in a few weeks! Nations of Théah: Volume 2 (as above) will go to the printer in May, so we expect to ship those to backers in June. The New World is a bit delayed (I’ve been busy with taxes and other JWP business stuff), but we still hope to have that book out on PDF in June along with Crescent Empire and Lands of Gold and Fire.

While we hoped to ship the Pirate's Booty and all the dice/decks/cards in April, our printer in China took longer to finalize the dice than we hoped. Here's a few previews:

Luckily, all of those materials, including the GM Screens, are already on boats headed to their various ports! Check out this video of everything loaded up on pallets (SPOILER: it's a lot of pallets):

It takes a few weeks for stuff to cross over from China, but we expect to ship these to backers at the end of May/first week of June. We’ll keep you all posted in the May Production Update. (You’ll notice we have a LOT of stuff coming out in May…)

JWP Retreat 2017

Last week, the JWP staff convened in New Mexico for our first-ever staff retreat. For some of us, it was also our first-ever time meeting in person! In addition to enjoying the amazing food and sunshine of New Mexico, everyone had the opportunity to give a presentation about their role at JWP, and to present ideas about future projects to the whole team.

John Shares His Origin Story
John Shares His Origin Story

Presentations included the history of JWP and 7th Sea, a behind-the-scenes look at art direction and layout, a media training and big-picture business overview, and planning for both of our much-anticipated Kickstarters this year: The War of the Cross and 7th Sea: The East. We also enjoyed conversations about potential new games and games that take place in existing worlds of John’s creation. It’s too early to share these ideas now, but keep an ear to the ground and an eye on the sky.

The War of the Cross... Coming Soon!
The War of the Cross... Coming Soon!

We're so excited about what the next five years holds for the John Wick Presents staff. We think of the 7th Sea: Second Edition Kickstarter as just the beginning!

The Spirit of 7th Sea

Finally, if you haven’t listened already, we’re happy to share one of our newest projects—the Spirit of the 7th Sea podcast. Join Hannah, John, and the 7th Sea crew for a once-monthly behind-the-scenes look at the triumphant return of 7th Sea.

Spirit of 7th Sea
Spirit of 7th Sea

In the first episode, John sits down with Hannah to talk about the whirlwind success of 2nd edition and the creative inspiration behind 7th Sea.

In the second episode, Hannah is joined by 7th Sea cartographer Mark Richardson to talk iconic geography, expanding Théah, and creating new coastlines ripe for exploring.

Follow along on libsyn or subscribe on iTunes and check back next month for a brand new episode.

And... that's it! We'll be back in a few weeks with an update for May!

Explorer’s Society, Daughter of Fate, and… Pirate Nations!
almost 9 years ago – Thu, Mar 30, 2017 at 10:40:30 PM

Hey folks!

We’ve got a bunch of new releases for you today: The Explorer’s Society, the final electronic files for Daughter of Fate, and… Pirate Nations in print. Let’s get right to it!

The Explorer’s Society on DriveThruRPG

At long last! Thanks to the amazing efforts of our Marketing Director, Hannah Shaffer, we’ve launched the Explorer’s Society on DriveThruRPG.

The Explorer's Society on DTRPG
The Explorer's Society on DTRPG

Through the Explorer’s Society, you can create, upload and sell your very own 7th Sea: Second Edition products, including homegrown adventures, Sorceries, Dueling Styles, system hacks and more. As a creator, you can share your content free of charge, set a price that feels right for you, or choose a pay-what-you-want option. All in the world of 7th Sea!

And if you're not a creator... then there's an opportunity for you to connect with creators who are developing a ton of awesome 7th Sea material:

http://www.drivethrurpg.com/cc/8/Explorers-Society

We are incredibly excited to see what kind of awesome resources our fans develop. In fact, we’ve got a small batch of fan products that we’ve helped along a bit (editing, layout) so they could be featured at launch. Here are a few of our favorites:

Expanded Ship Rules by Rob Donoghue - “The Core Rulebook ship rules are wonderful for what they’re supposed to do—get the Heroes into a ship with a minimum of fuss. And that works out fantastically if the ship is an adjunct to the larger game, but if the ship is going to be the center of play, then the table might want a little bit more depth to it.”

High Price of Love by Heather Osborne - “In glittering Charouse, courtly lovers carrying rich presents to their beloved are being waylaid, robbed, and badly injured. The robbers have an uncanny foreknowledge of their victims' gifts and routes, and a disturbing talent for escaping the law. As robberies with violence escalate to murder, it becomes clear that the city needs Heroes.”

Besos de la Araña by André La Roche - “Besos de la Araña is a highly-secretive Sorcery practiced in hiding amongst the Castillians. The Sorcery gains its name from a bandit known only as Araña, a folk hero of legend. Araña stole fortunes from the Church and nobility, and was equally generous in spending her wealth amongst the commoners. Her true name long-since lost to history, Araña gained her moniker due to her infatuation with spiders.”

And there’s a whole lot more to be found on the main Explorer’s Society page!

Over the next year, we’re going to be adding even more cool stuff to the Explorer’s Society, including official 7th Sea adventures, more settings (Aztlan! Ifri!) and even more art for you to use in your adventures. Of course, our hope is that the best stuff there will be all the new products that fans upload!

You can find out more about uploading your own work on DTRPG or you can check out our Explorer’s Society page on JohnWickPresents.com for more information.

Pirate Nations: Print Copies

The main shipment of Pirate Nations print copies arrived at our office this week! We’re so incredibly proud of this book, especially the work that John and Ben put into developing it, and we’re thrilled to get it out into the world.

Pirate Nations, ready to ship!
Pirate Nations, ready to ship!

As promised, we’ll be running the delivery for these books through our webstore via coupon codes delivered through Backerkit. We’ve already pushed those coupons out via email, but if you didn’t get an email, you can grab your coupon directly from the Backerkit Digital Downloads page:

https://7th-sea-second-edition.backerkit.com/backer/digital_rewards

Note that your coupon entitles you to free shipping on your book, which applies to any other books you add to your order as well (like an additional Core Rulebook, Heroes & Villains or any other JWP product!) This coupon is also good for one year, so you can wait to use it if you’re about to change your address or want more than one book delivered at a time.

And if you didn’t yet purchase a physical copy of Pirate Nations and want to pick one up… now is a great time to buy your copy direct from our webstore:

http://johnwickpresents.com/product/7th-sea-pirate-nations/

Again, huge congrats to the whole crew of Pirate Nations for their work on the book!

Daughter of Fate: Electronic Copies

In addition to getting print copies of Pirate Nations out today, we’re also delivering the final electronic versions of Daughter of Fate, the first 7th Sea novel.

Daughter of Fate Mockup
Daughter of Fate Mockup

As with the Pirate Nations codes, the novel has been pushed out to backers via Backerkit. If you didn’t get an email, you can grab the files (ePub, .mobi, and PDF) directly from the Backerkit Digital Downloads page:

https://7th-sea-second-edition.backerkit.com/backer/digital_rewards

If you haven’t had time to read the novel… make some time. John has done an amazing job bringing the world of 7th Sea to life, and the journey of Elena from the lands of Vodacce to the life of a Hero is a really, really fun read.

Here’s a snippet from the first chapter, as Elena learns what being a fate witch means from her grandmother:

Elena sat quietly as many men and women walked about her father’s house. She sat with Nana and watched.

The woman’s presence was like a shadow now. Ever present and subtle. Sometimes Elena even forgot she was there. But she was always there. Just a step behind her. A shadow. Mother was pregnant again and all her family had come. Uncles, aunts, cousins. All of them. People she had never seen before and people she had seen perhaps only once. But they all knew her name and they all greeted her like they had known her all her life.

“Look at them,” Nana said. Elena answered, “I am.”

“No,” Nana said. “Look at them.”

Elena took a breath...closed her eyes...then opened them...

Her eyes changed focus. As if she was trying to see through the people.

“Look at them,” Nana said again. ...and Elena looked.

Elena raised a hand but Nana slapped it down, moving with a speed Elena had become accustomed to, but still caught her off guard. “Do not point. Only speak.”

Elena’s eyes focused on a man speaking to her father. She saw the strand linking them, shimmering like a spider web with droplets of sunlight.

“He owes my father money,” she said.

Nana nodded, “Very good.”

Elena shifted her gaze, looking at the strands. Desire. Authority.

Each its own shimmering color.

Elena saw some of the women watching her. Their eyes trembling.

“Not all of us have the Gift,” Nana said. “And those who are not pretty enough or wealthy enough are simple slaves.”

Elena shut her eyes. Took a breath. When she opened them again, the world was simple. Just men and women. No strands. She looked at Nana. “What happens to the ones who aren’t...”

“If a woman does not have the Gift, she can still be a wife if she is rich or pretty enough. But those of us who are daughters of fate, we are selected first.” She waved her hand. “Others go to the streets and earn a meager living as whores.” Nana said, “Look again. Tell me what you see.”

Elena shifted her gaze, focusing on a woman speaking to her brother, Ignazio. The woman was older...as old as her own mother.

The strand between them was red like wine.

“She wants something from Ignazio,” she said.

Nana nodded. “What is it she wants?”

Elena’s eyes narrowed. “She...” Tighter. “...wants...” Elena gasped and shut her eyes. Nana laughed quietly.

Elena opened her eyes and looked at Nana. “Some things should be private.”

“Not to us,” Nana said, a small grin on her lips. “Nothing is secret from us, dear. That is why you are so desired as a wife.” Nana put her thin, fragile finger up to her lips. “Because no one can keep a secret from us.”

Want to find out how Elena breaks the oppressive rules of Vodacce society to become a pirate, spy and Hero? Read the book!

We’re sending the novel to the printer this week, so please let us know right away if you catch any final typos. Backers who ordered the print copy should receive their books (via coupon codes) in late April, and we’ll put additional copies up for sale on our webstore.

Whew!

Yup, we meant it when we called this “The Year of 7th Sea” in January! And there’s more to come. Stay tuned for our next production update in mid-April. We’ll have more information then about the final PDF for Nations of Théah, Vol 1 and 2, the Pirate’s Booty shipment with dice/decks/tokens and more. Thank you all for your support!

Production Update: March 2017 & Pirate Nations at PAX East
about 9 years ago – Thu, Mar 09, 2017 at 11:41:47 PM

Ahoy, me hearties!

Listen close...for we be telling you a tale true, one that even the Devil Jonah himself would stop to give an ear. The treasure ye be seeking is closer than it seems!

Pirate Nations at PAX East

As you may have heard, John Wick Presents has a booth at PAX East this year (Booth #10112). We sent Pirate Nations to the printer in early February, so we didn’t expect to have copies at PAX...but the printer just contacted us to say that they were able to finish part of our print run early and they were shipping books to PAX!

The bulk of the Pirate Nations books will be headed to our warehouse in Albuquerque and our reshippers in Canada, Australia, and the EU by Friday, so we’ll release the coupons for those next week when we return from PAX. Expect to see Pirate Nations on your doorstep before the end of the month!

...but if you’re going to be at PAX East this weekend, you can pick up your print copy of Pirate Nations by filling out this form by 10 am Eastern on Friday:

PAX East Pirate Nations Pickup Request

If you didn’t add-on a copy of Pirate Nations to your pledge during the campaign, we’ll also have limited numbers of copies for sale at Booth #10112! Drop by and say hello!

War of the Cross at PAX East

If Pirate Nations isn’t enough of a reason for you to come visit our booth, we will also have prototypes of the 7th Sea board game we promised during the campaign: The War of the Cross!

Alliance and Heroic Action Cards
Alliance and Heroic Action Cards

Dave Williams, Luke Peterschmidt, and John have been working tirelessly for the last few months to refine and perfect the first 7th Sea: Second Edition board game, tweaking the cards, the rules, and the board to put you at the center of the war that defines Théah.

Move Tokens and Guilders
Move Tokens and Guilders

We’ll be running demos all weekend, starting when the convention opens on Friday. Come by to try the game out and give us feedback before we launch the War of the Cross Kickstarter later this year. (These prototypes are so hot off the presses that even John hasn't gotten his hands on one yet!)

Songs of the 7th Sea Delivery

In addition to working on our sourcebooks, board games, novels, and more… we’ve also been lucky enough to work with Sheldon Morley to finalize the official 7th Sea: Second Edition soundtrack: Songs from the 7th Sea.

Sheldon has done some amazing, amazing work on these shanties, and we’re thrilled to finally share with you the full album! Please check your Backerkit Digital Downloads page for MP3s of the whole album!

We’ll be finalizing a few liner notes and credits before we put the soundtrack up for sale on our website, but please enjoy the shanties themselves. We predict you’ll be humming ‘em as you carry about your business on the open seas soon enough.

Production Update: March 2017

It’s March… which means it’s time for another update to our production calendar:

Books

  • Pirate Nations: Shipping!
  • Nations of Théah, Vol 1: Proofing to At Printer
  • Nations of Théah, Vol 2: Copy Editing to Layout, delivery set to April 2017
  • The New World: Adjusted delivery to May 2017
  • The Crescent Empire: Writing to Dev Editing, delivery set to May 2017
  • Lands of Gold and Fire: Adjusted delivery to June 2017

Accessories

  • Pirate’s Booty: Adjusted delivery to April 2017
  • GM Screen: Adjusted delivery to April 2017
  • Storium World: Adjusted delivery to March 2017
  • Songs of the 7th Sea: COMPLETE (see above)

Novels

  • Daughter of Fate: Adjusted delivery to March 2017
  • Born Under a Black Flag: Adjusted delivery to April 2017
  • The Gossamer Empire: On Hold to Writing

The big news for March is that we’ve sent our third 7th Sea sourcebook (Nations of Théah: Volume 1) to the printer! Huge congrats to Danielle Lauzon and Lenny Balsera for keeping that book moving. We’ll have a final PDF for you all next week when we return from PAX East.

We’ve also adjusted a number of our expected sourcebook delivery dates this month based on how long it’s taking us to get a final PDF out the door once we’ve finished layout. Nations of Théah: Volume 2 is next up on the list, so look for previews of that PDF this month, followed by us sending it to the printer and delivering a final PDF in April 2017.

While our sourcebooks march on, the Pirate’s Booty has been delayed by some dice problems in China. Unfortunately, that’s caused us to shift the delivery date forward; everything else is ready to go, but we need the dice completed before we can ship everything to the States. We’ll keep you posted!

Finally, we’re addressing some language problems in Daughter of Fate that should be resolved before the end of the month, and we're still working on developmental edits to Born Under a Black Flag, so we’ve updated both those delivery estimates. John has started writing on The Gossamer Empire, though, so we should see that book before Gen Con 2017!

As always, thanks for your patience. This project is an enormous endeavor, one that requires us to constantly reevaluate what we can get done and how long it’s going to take us to do it. Thank you so much for your support while we make the whole of 7th Sea: Second Edition a reality!

Golden Geek Game of the Year: 7th Sea!

Speaking of our amazing fans, 7th Sea: Second Edition won a Golden Geek for Roleplaying Game of the Year! We also snagged a Runner Up spot for Best Artwork and Presentation (thanks to the efforts of Marissa Kelly and Thomas Deeny). Amazing!

Thank you all so much for supporting us and voting for the game. We never dreamed that 7th Sea could return like this, and you all are absolutely the people who made it possible. Thank you!

Production Update: February 2017
about 9 years ago – Thu, Feb 09, 2017 at 10:51:10 PM

Hello everyone!

The year of 7th Sea marches on! We’ve got a bunch of awesome stuff for you today, including print copies of Heroes & Villains, the final PDF of Pirate Nations, a preview of Nations of Théah, Vol 1, updates to the production calendar, and some new 7th Sea: Second Edition community resources. Let’s get started!

Heroes & Villains: Print Copies

Although our printer was also slowed a bit by the holiday season, we finally have all the Heroes & Villains book at our office. Wooo!

Getting your book from our website is simple:

  1. Get your coupon from Backerkit

  2. Go to the product page [LINK] on our website

  3. Add the coupon to your order at checkout

  4. We’ll ship the book to you right away

Note that your coupon entitles you to free shipping on your book, which applies to any other books you add to your order as well (like an additional Core Rulebook or any other JWP product!) This coupon is also good for one year, so you can wait to use it if you’re about to change your address or want more than one book delivered at a time.

And if you didn’t yet purchase a physical copy of Heroes & Villains and want to pick one up… now is a great time to buy your copy direct from our webstore:

Once again, huge thanks to Liz C. and her amazing writers for making this book awesome!

Pirate Nations on DTRPG

As we wrap up Heroes & Villains, it’s also time for us to finalize the Pirate Nations PDF. Stay tuned to your Backerkit Digital Downloads page for a link to download the Pirate Nations PDF from DriveThruRPG.

We’re going to be making a few changes to this PDF (including a new index) before it goes live on DTRPG next week, but we didn’t want you all to have to wait any longer to get the newest release of the book!

Thanks again to all our backers for their help in proofing and preparing these files for print. We’re thrilled to say that the book is already at the printer, and we’ll be delivering print copies in late March!

Nations of Théah, Vol 1 Preview

Now that Pirate Nations is at the printer, it’s time for our next sourcebook: Nations of Théah, Vol 1. Our writing staff, led by developer Danielle Lauzon, has been hard at work on both volumes of these books, and we’re pumped to get this copy into your hands. To that end, we’ve sent out a preview copy via Backerkit already today!

If you don’t get an email, don’t worry: The book should be available to you on your digital downloads page at this link:

https://7th-sea-second-edition.backerkit.com/backer/digital_rewards

If for some reason your Backerkit doesn’t have the file, please message us via Kickstarter and we’ll get it sorted out for you. We can’t wait to get your feedback on our newest book!

As before… please don’t email or post in the comments with your feedback. With over 11,000 backers, that would overwhelm our ability to deal with emails and comments. Instead give us feedback via this link by February 19th at 10:00pm Eastern:

We’ll be sending this book to the printer in early March, so look for final PDFs then and actual books by the end of April! (And look for Nations of Théah, Vol 2 in March as well...)

Production Update: Feb 2017

Huge thanks this month to Lenny Balsera, our new Creative Director. Not only has Lenny made it possible for our team to get caught up on projects like Pirate Nations, but he’s also helping us get new projects started on time. We’ve got three new books that launched so far this year!

Community Resource: 7th Sea Basic Rules

As we promised during the Kickstarter, we’ve put together a set of Basic Rules for 7th Sea that are now freely available to the public. These rules cover Théah as a setting, character creation, and the rules for playing the game, making 7th Sea’s core mechanics and setting available to anyone with an internet connection.

You can find the Basic Rules here:

7th Sea Basic Rules [LINK]

Please spread the word about the Basic Rules! We’re excited to make these resources available to new players, and we hope they make it easier than ever for you recruit Heroes for adventures in the world of 7th Sea!

Community Resource: 7th Sea Wiki

In addition to releasing the Basic Rules, we’ve also set up a 7th Sea: Second Edition fan wiki on Wikia:

http://7th-sea-2e.wikia.com/wiki/7th_Sea_2e_Wiki

We’re always excited to see fans come together to share resources and talk about the amazing world of 7th Sea. To facilitate those conversations, we’ve set up the basic infrastructure for a 7th Sea wiki on Wikia and we’d like you (the fans) to help us make it an awesome resource.

A few quick rules:

  • Please don’t directly copy/paste material from the books! We’re happy to have people paraphrase the content (and even create timelines of events), but we’d like to avoid folks directly copying material onto the wiki.
  • Be good to each other! If folks are jumping in to help edit and contribute to the wiki, try to be welcoming and kind to their efforts. We're all Heroes here...
  • Chart your own path! We've seeded the wiki with some early pages to get things moving, but we're excited to see what you all do with the material. If you want to create a cool page to track all the bars in Théah or collect all the material on Montaigne fashion... go for it!

Now on Kickstarter: Cold Shadows

While we’re hard at work on getting the rest of 7th Sea out to backers, we’re thrilled to see other folks doing interesting things with John’s work. This past week, Alan Bahr (Nocturnal Media) launched a Kickstarter for Cold Shadows [LINK], a new narrative RPG that’s already reached 400% funded:

Cold Shadows modifies and expands Blood & Honor—John Wick’s return to the samurai genre—to tell tales inspired by Cold War espionage fiction. A talented team of writers, including Alan Bahr, Ben Woerner from Woerner Wunderwerks, Liz Chaipraditkul from Angry Hampster Publishing and Tobie Abad from TAGSessions are working together to craft a narrative RPG that chronicles the elaborate plots and tensions that evolve over years of spycraft and espionage work.

Alan is Kickstarting a 150+ page book that features:

  • Rules for playing as high-level operatives in an Agency
  • Rules for one player and one Narrator
  • Rules for Narrator-less play
  • A chapter on generating a City with rules for how that impacts your Agents
  • Chapters on fighting styles
  • Information about historical and modern espionage organizations
  • A chapter on women in the Cold War and espionage cinema
  • And much more!

Go check out Alan’s project to get a preview of the game, including more information on how the game plays, the rest of his awesome team and a whole slew of cool rewards that you might be interested in picking up.

Whew!

That was a lot! And we’ve got more coming later this month, including more sea shanties, the launch of the Explorer’s Society on DriveThruRPG… and more fiction from John Wick himself!
